Slow down, pick up some fabric, and create a keepsake you'll be proud to hang. In this hands-on Kinusaiga workshop, we'll teach you the Japanese art of no-sew fabric painting, one tucked piece of fabric at a time. You leave with a finished (or nearly finished) 10" x 10" framed fabric art piece. No sewing machine, needle, or thread involved.

What Is Kinusaiga?

Kinusaiga (pronounced kee-noo-SAI-gah) is a traditional Japanese fabric art. Small pieces of fabric are cut and pressed into grooves carved into a wooden board, building up a picture with the soft texture and depth of a quilt. It's relaxing, forgiving, and beginner-friendly, and every finished piece is one-of-a-kind.

Choose Your Design

Each seat includes one design. Pick yours when you register:

• Beach Sunrise: a glowing sunrise over the shore, a coastal favorite.
• Dog Paw Print: a sweet tribute to a beloved pet.
• Lighthouse: a classic coastal lighthouse with rolling waves and clouds.
• Cardinal: a bold red cardinal on a snowy branch. One of our more detailed designs; plan on a little extra time.
• Sunflower: a warm, cheerful sunflower. Also a longer project.
• Custom Design (+$20): we carve a board from your own photo or idea, such as a pet, your home, or a favorite place. Please register at least 2 weeks ahead and email your photo to info@paisleygracemakery.com.

Make it meaningful: You're welcome to bring sentimental fabric, like a loved one's shirt, a baby blanket, or a scrap with a story, to work into your design. Fabric prints and colors vary with what we have in stock, so no two pieces are ever alike.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need sewing experience for Kinusaiga?
No. Kinusaiga is a no-sew fabric art. You'll use a simple tool to tuck fabric into grooved lines, so beginners do great.

How long does a Kinusaiga project take?
Most designs take about 2 to 3 hours. The Cardinal and Sunflower are more detailed and may take longer. If you don't finish, you can take it home to complete or come back at another session.

Can I bring my own fabric?
Yes. Bring any sentimental or favorite fabric pieces and we'll help you work them into your design.

Is this a good activity for a group or date?
Absolutely. It's a relaxing, creative outing for friends, couples, moms and daughters, and anyone looking for things to do in Fernandina Beach and Amelia Island.

How do I order a Custom Design?
Choose the Custom Design option at checkout, then email your photo or idea to info@paisleygracemakery.com. We need about 2 weeks to design and carve your board.
