The Butterfly sea glass sun catcher is an approximately 8 inch round wood design, laser cut at Paisley Grace Makery, that you paint and then fill with crushed glass and sea glass set in clear resin. Hung in a window, it glows like stained glass.
Think of it as paint-by-number with light: the wood lines are the outline, and every opening is a space you fill with color. Butterfly wings are already built like stained glass, so this design is a natural. Try monarch oranges, garden purples or every color at once.
You choose every color, so no two ever come out the same.

Register to reserve your project
In-stock projects vary daily, so registering is the best way to make sure this one is waiting for you. Add it to your cart and choose your date in the Choose Your Workshop menu by the Add to Cart button. Walk-ins are welcome during Open Paint, Tuesday to Saturday from 11am to 4pm, and choose from what is in stock that day.

Paint, then place your glass
Paint the wood frame, then fill each opening with crushed glass and sea glass in the colors you choose. Bring shells or beach finds if you like.

Cure it and carry it home
We set your glass with UV resin and cure it under the light, so your piece goes home with you the same day. Allow about 1.5 hours start to finish.

Yes. The color comes from real crushed glass and sea glass, held in clear resin inside a wood frame. You get the look of stained glass without lead, solder or cutting.
Is the studio BYOB, and can kids come?
Yes to both. Paisley Grace Makery is BYOB for Open Paint, evening workshops and private parties. Open Paint (11am to 4pm, Tuesday to Saturday) is for all ages, and the 6pm Pick Your Project workshops are for ages 16 and up.
Can we make sea glass art at a private party?
Yes. Sea glass projects can be booked for birthdays, bachelorette parties, girls' nights and team outings. Private parties have no guest minimum, and adult parties last about 2.5 hours. See our private party options.
